Chapter 11

When Glen returned inside some twenty minutes later, Brad could see his brother-in-law wasn’t happy.

“Were you able to talk to Rick or Lynn?”

“I told the person who answered that it was an emergency. Rick and Lynn called back a few minutes ago. They didn’t give the stuffed animal to Annie, Brad.”

“Oh, God! That means someone was in the cabin more than once. They were with my baby and we didn’t know,” Hannah said almost hysterically.

Sher grabbed Hannah, saying, “We’ll get answers soon. The person had to leave prints or evidence somewhere.”

“Rick and Lynn are flying in from Cancun today as soon as they can dock in port,” Glen added.

“Sheriff Saunders,” one of the forensic men said, getting Glen’s attention. “We’ve got some good prints, but we need to print everyone here to eliminate their prints.”

“Let’s do this in the kitchen. Brad, you and Hannah go first. Then Sher and I will have our turn since we were here in the last few days,” Glen said, taking control.

After washing the ink off their fingers, Hannah wrapped her arms around her husband for strength. “Brad, I’ve tried not to think it, but what if we don’t find her? What if she’s gone from us forever?”

Brad squeezed Hannah tight. He knew she voiced what he was asking himself. He also knew they could give in to those thoughts and all was lost. “We can’t think those thoughts. The only end to this is we will get Annie back soon.”

Sher joined her brother and his wife, putting her arms around them both. “You two went through hell over a year ago. You both are fighters and have more emotional strength when most people would give up and crawl in a hole. I know Annie being kidnapped is worse than any of us went through in the past, but I have faith we will stay strong and fight and get her back where she belongs.”

Hannah gave Sher a weak smile before she said, “We needed that. Please, if you see me falling apart again, I’m going to count on you to straighten me out.”

“Thank you, sis. Now, Glen, tell us what we can do. We have to help and work together,” Brad said.

“Hannah, we need to talk to the woman who lost her child. What’s her full name, and can you give me an address?”

“Her name is Jackie Minor. I’ll write down her address, but I think you’re wrong about her. I don’t think she could’ve taken Annie.”

“Hannah, we have to check everyone,” Brad told his wife before she left to get the mentioned address.

Hannah returned, handing Glen a slip of paper. “It’s two miles from here. I’m going with you, Glen.”

“Hannah, I think it’s best if you wait here,” Glen said.

“Honey, I think you need to let Hannah go with you. She needs to go,” Sher pleaded with her husband.

Glen reluctantly agreed. “Grab your shoes and let’s go. Brad, I know you want to go, too, but I need you to stay here in case the techs have any questions or need anything.
